Frank Warren declares Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury rematch likely to take place in the US in April or May
It appears the ‘Gypsy King’ will have to fight on away soil once again, having taken on the American in LA in December
Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has stated the Deontay Wilder rematch is likely for an April/May date in the US.
Following the controversial decision in their December draw – which took place in LA – the Brit’s camp vocalised their desire for a return bout to occur at a stadium in the UK.
However it seems the financial lure of the United States will take Fury back to America.
“The venue is looking like the US,” Warren explained to ESPN, “That’s where the money is.
“Tyson was disappointed with the judging with the last fight, as I was, so a lot of things need to be sorted.
“But the US is where they want it, probably in the second quarter.”
The ‘second quarter’ of 2019 refers to the months of April, May and June, however Warren went on to state he hopes the fight will take place before June.
Regarding a specific venue, the promoter insisted they would not return to the scene of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury’s first encounter, and instead look elsewhere in the States.
“Vegas would be one of the options. I wouldn’t want to go back to California, I didn’t like working with the Californian commission and there were a lot of things we didn’t like there.
“Tyson is already in the gym working hard, ticking over, and I think we would get it [the Wilder rematch] before June.”
